CLRC conducts two LTR programs at various times.

Adult Learn to Row

This program is for people of all ages post high school. An LTR course within this program consists of six sessions, each lasting two hours. All on-water tuition is conducted in octo-scull or quad-scull boats (eight or four rowers using sculling oars). Rather than using single sculls for adult courses, the octo-scull/quad-scull provides stability on the water so the students can focus entirely on the rowing activity and not be apprehensive about falling into the water. Depending upon the progress of the LTR squad, Lesson 6 may involve the introduction to single and double sculls - this is at the discretion of the coach.

This course will include the following:

  •  Lesson 1 – Boatshed & Getting Started
    • Understand rowing shed safety and layout.
    • Understand waterway rules and safety hazards.
    • Understand the physics of rowing – boat and ergs.

    • Conduct tapping and rollup drills.
  • Lesson 3 – Half Slide Rowing
    • Conduct rowing using back half of slide.
    • Coordinate the legs, body, arms & body swing, for drive and recovery.
    • Feel power applied with legs and body rather than mainly arms.
    • Practice manoeuvring boat.

  • Lesson 4 – Full Slide Rowing
    • Conduct rowing using full slide.
    • Coordinate the legs, body, arms & body swing, for drive and recovery.

    • Develop steady rhythm at differing drive speeds.

At the conclusion of this course each participant will be presented with a Certificate of Completion and a CLRC cap.
